Blessed with an astounding year-round concentration of animals and the climax of the Great Migration, Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve provides an unsurpassed wildlife experience. Covering an area of 1 510 km2, the Masai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless plains. The Reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise with abundant elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently encountered, endangered black rhino find retreat in dense thickets, and large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The Mara is also home to over 450 bird species. Situated in the &Beyond Kichwa Tembo Private Concession, which neighbours the Masai Mara, &Beyond Bateleur Camp offers world-class accommodation in the African bush. Meaning “head of the elephant” in Kiswahili, Kichwa Tembo is located on private land leased from Maasai landlords in the remote western Mara – almost exclusively explored by fly-in guests. In addition to the excellent concentration of animals, Kichwa Tembo lies directly in the path of Africa’s spectacular Great Migration. Spend the day roaming the Mara in search of the perfect image, or set up and wait for the perfect moment. Back at the lodge browse through your photos while Andrew shares tips and ideas. Day 3 & 4

Depart the Masai Mara on your scheduled SafariLink flight to Migori; here you will be met by a representative from Coastal Aviation for your road transfer across the border to Tarime. On arrival at Tarime you will depart on your scheduled Coastal Aviation flight to the airstrip nearest to &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas. Serengeti National Park boasts 35 species of plains-dwelling game and prolific birdlife. &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is set in the remote western reaches of the Park, on a bywater of the Grumeti River, known for its wildebeest crossings and enormous Nile crocodiles. Tucked into a strip of riverine forest, guests thrill to the antics of resident hippo and spectacular pied colobus monkeys (found nowhere else in the Serengeti). Every year in June and July, Africa’s annual Great Migration passes through Grumeti, and hundreds upon thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores cross the Grumeti River, risking the jaws of some of Africa’s largest crocodiles. The Great Migration is one of the wonders of the natural world; unsurpassed in raw drama and epic in scale it is possibly the greatest spectacle in the world of wildlife photography. &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas follows the Migration throughout the year as it moves from the Southern Serengeti up to the Masai Mara. Depending on time of year, spend time with the new-born calves during the lush green season or stand in awe at the thundering rush of the river crossings. Your private vehicle and the combined expertise of Andrew and your ranger will see you perfectly positioned to capture each moment perfectly. Spend two nights at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas in an ensuite tent. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and return airstrip transfers.

Day 5 & 6

This morning you will depart on your scheduled Tanganyika Flying Company flight to Manyara Airstrip, where you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge who will transfer you by game drive to the lodge. Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Here, the Great Rift Valley is at its most impressive, with the escarpment dropping some 500 metres down to the lakeshore. Apart from a spectacular setting, the park is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Masai giraffe and impala roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. Troops of several hundred olive baboon appear alongside Sykes monkey and short-eared galago. Cape clawless otter, Egyptian mongoose, hippo and klipspringer are other park residents. The home of the famed tree-climbing lions is a scenic panorama of escarpment and lake, with some of the most dramatic lighting around. Take the time to explore the scenic park and depending on time of year maybe snap some of the lake’s pink residents… Spend two nights at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge in a tree house. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines, and local brand spirits. Night game drives can be arranged at additional charge. Please note that the camp requires 24 hours notice to do the night drive.

Day 7 & 8

Depart on your road transfer to Manyara Airstrip where you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Ngrorongoro Crater Lodge and transferred to the lodge. The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 m deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingoes crowd the soda lakes. An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl of plenty, including a population of approximately 6 000 resident wildebeest, 16 highly endangered black rhino and around 70 lions. Cheetah move in and out of the Crater, while leopard are most often encountered in the spectacular Lerai Forest. &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, consistently recognised as one of the world’s most luxurious and elegant places to stay, sits right on the edge of the Crater, offering unbeatable views of one of the natural travel wonders of the world. The crater itself is an astonishing sight from any angle, but the view from its rim is unforgettable. Descend into this high-walled Eden with a private vehicle and spend entire days rambling around its golden base, surrounded by some of the highest game densities in Tanzania. Spend two nights at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge in a suite. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines and local brand spirits.
